Getting started with the “Conveyancing” process

Conveyancing simply means the process whereby the legal title to a property is transferred from the old owner to the new owner. The process typically takes between 6-10 weeks, but there are things buyers can do right at the start to get ahead of the game.

  • Get your original photographic and address identification documents together. Photocopies are not acceptable and you will need to visit your bank to have original statements printed if the majority of your bills and statements are online.
  • Pay your monies on account promptly as searches cannot be applied for until you do.
  • Be transparent about the source of your deposit. Your conveyancer will need to know if you have a Help to Buy ISA or are receiving a gift for example.
